Laguna "the Maria" This lake is 22 km from Comala. There is a recreational center with cabins (hotel), camping and modern RV spaces and a restaurant. There are small boats for rent but I'd suggest not for for fishing since the lake water looks stagnant this time of year. We did see lots of fish along the shore.

We walked the kilometer to the lake and camping-picnic areas but you can drive all the way in along the lake. The only other people there were some 'birders' walking with their guide. Everything would be greener after the rainy season but it was still pretty. Take your mosquito repellant.

When we made our visit to Colima ( a promise to a family friend who went to school in Colima, Colima through a program offered by the Univeristy of Oregon) ... we also knew we must visit Comala. So after spending the early portion of the day trekking about downtown Colima we lunched at Hotel Ceballos enjoying the view of el jardin, drank lots of water and decided to take the "long walk" out to the bus station (seems like it was southwest of the hotel) and catch a bus up to Comala to see first hand the furniture district.

The best thing for us about Mexico are the adventures that come from the unexpected locales. Comala was that for us. Such a charming litttle town ( one that is definitely on our short list of 'retirement places in Mexico' ) is Comala. We enjoyed the dueling Mariachi bands, the food at the restaurants and the ice cream parlor on the north side of the main square.

These fotos of the area outside of town are fuel for our next trip there; we need to see everything about Comala, including the recreational offerings.
