They told us when we were there last week (with 5 kids) that if we could gather kids here to attend they would be able to make a Melaque visit with their mobile clinic. They need in the neighborhood of 25+ kids to make the trip worth while.

If you have any ideas on how to come up with kids for this please let me know - even Barra if you know some kids. The clinic would be in the last two weeks of January.

I will post on TOMZAP soon but I don't have much hope for help in this area. La Manzanilla seems to have good community ties, is vocal about their activities and can get organized over things. That will be the next attempt if little happens here.

Sparks, if you get the mobile clinic here, the kids will come. I talked to my housekeeper and just in her extended family there are probably 6 kids that will take advantage of the service.
I suggest that you contact the people at St Patrick's church--they have an outreach program to the community, so you could get some volunteers and help with the clinic. Maybe even set up the mobile clinic at their palapa (if it doesn't interfere with services).
What do you have in mind? An open clinic where people just show up, or will you schedule people for certain times? In my experience with eye clinics in Mexico, it is difficult to schedule people--only maybe you can offer morning & afternoon slots, but nothing more exact than that.

First we need a core of 25-30 kids to assure that they don't waste their trip and have to swim and drink beer on the beach all day. Anything beyond that and I'll have to talk to them to see how much they can handle and how much time they have.

If someone got kids together in La Manzanilla maybe they could do a day up there or work on transportation getting them here.

Not being a church goer, I didn't think of that ... good idea and I'll check

Also Project Amigo does have money to finance these things ... but any help with housing for 'the team' would surely be appreciated.
