I took a trip over to Barra today on my newly tuned up bike, took a lot of fotos, they almost had what you could call surf, found the Banamex ATM (no line like the bank in Melaque), tried to buy a few cigars under the Hotel Alondra (exactly twice the price of Super Hawaii in Melaque) .... and then ...
I rode along the lagoon side looking for a combination restaurant and live music place that we stuck our heads into this summer. I was surprised to find the other Alcatraz over there ... but the name is much longer (Alcatraz de la Laguna - or something). I walked in to look around and see if this was the sister site to the one in Melaque ... when I was confronted NOT greeted. There's some young dude who seems to be high on something and really appears to be a sort of
Matra d'. He's not Mexican, just got off the plane from Paris, his contract at a posh hotel down the coast was just canceled .... and on and on. All I can say is if you want a relaxing dinner ... avoid Alcatraz until this guy moves on.
Barra is quiet the ZOO compared to Melaque (my opinion). It feels more crowded and the auto traffic along the beach just adds to the confusion. There was a large open canopy bus up from Manzanillo that dumped 50 or so tourists onto the streets.
Still the happy coast
