Here's the story

There are actually two schools on the campus. Virginia Torres is the morning section and Juan Escutia is afternoon. Each section has a coopertiva of the parents and separate kitchens. Kind of strange but that's the way it is.

The Juan Escutia section does not have enough support to get a new (or good used) stove. Each kitchen is rented out by the school to someone but there is not enough money in it without a varied menu which requires a stove.

Friends and I bought a fridge and blenders for the school last year but this year we need wider support. Maybe the new Rotary can pick up on this or simply the larger population of full time gringos that now exists.

I went to Manzanillo with the woman that runs the kitchen (Mari's sister) shopping for stoves and found that you can buy a basic six burner cheaper in Melaque than the big box stores. Big box stores don't have the variety and very little BASIC.

We found a number of 6 burner stoves at the muebles (furniture/appliance) store about a block towards the plaza from the old Bigotes in the $3000 peso range ($300us).

We got ZERO responses to help when we bought the fridge but maybe we'll have better luck this time around. I would even start it off with a $500 peso contribution if others respond. .............. and if I don't hear from the Rotary, Wednesday is 2 days away

So far we have 5 contributions but are still lacking about $100. If anyone not here in Melaque right now wants they can use the PayPal page below. Any excess money will be redistributed to balance the contributions. I promise to post fotos of delivery and install.

We got a MABE brand with 4 burners, Comal, quality burners and electric start for $3100 pesos. It will be delivered to the school tomorrow afternoon. The kitchen is not ready yet so it will sit in the directors office for awhile

Bought the stove today at Muebles Hogar downtown on Lopez Mateo. They have 5-6 burner stoves as low as $2600-2700 pesos but with inexpensive burners, etc. I assume this stove will be used a lot. It will be delivered to the school around 5:30 this afternoon.

I closed the PayPal page due to concern over allocation of extra monies. Still have not heard back from a local business that reportedly wanted to donate .... and a friend sent an 'encrypted' email indicating he may add $250 pesos, we'll see when the joke is over.

The stove was delivered today. The kids were out on the "parade ground" and he had them do a one minute routine for me.

Taking advantage of a situation (don't blame them at all) he also asked if we could come up with an air-conditioner. They have 5-6 sitting in boxes but are lacking enough for another room. Rather than starting another campaign I offered my used one that I just had repaired. What am I going to do with two of them and haven't used AIR yet this year.
