The new satellite television company will take on Sky, owned largely by the Mexican media giant Televisa.
Sky has had little competition from other satellite television providers since DirecTV Group Inc. pulled out of Mexico four years ago. DirecTV Group Inc. now owns 41 percent of Sky Mexico.
Englewood, Colorado-based EchoStar Corp. says the new company will allow it to enter the Mexican market.
Dish will launch first in the cities of Puebla and Leon. It will then be expanded across Mexico in the next few months.
Telmex signs distribution agreement with Dish MexicoMexico City - Mexico's largest fixed-line phone company, Telmex (NYSE: TII) (MXK:TELINTL) said it has signed a distribution agreement with cable provider Dish Mexico.
In a press release issued Monday, Telmex said Dish Mexico's cable services will be added to its own phone and internet services. As per the agreement, it will distribute the satellite TV services of Dish Mexico to its subscribers and will generate the invoice for the cable services charges on the phone bill.
Dish Mexico is formed by MVS Comunicaciones and Echo Star Corporation.
Dish Mexico services will be added to Telmex' services phone and internet with this contract. Dish Mexico is a venture between Mexican telecommunications firm MVS Comunicaciones and EchoStar Corporation (SATS).
