A ramada is a shed roof more or less and palapas are palm fronds. We got the uprights and cross pieces from a REAL palapa that was torn down across the street to make room for a brick structure. For the last 8 months or so we have been using a plastic tarp for shade in the back yard. Plastic does not last that long and is not nearly as cool as palapa.

So they split the fronds by hand from the small end (they just pull it apart) and separate them in piles (left and right sides). Then a structure to stand on while tying them in place. Then the lashing begins alternating left and right sides of the palm. Mari's son is on the ground handing up the pieces.

The bricks are new in anticipation of our new living space. Was just sand before. Clothes lines are back up and Mari is watering.
