I am ready to sod our backyard. I don't care for the St. Augustine grass at the sod farm by the Pemex. Does anyone know where I can find Bermuda sod in this area?

Thanks!

Elke

Plugs would be slow but if you get them in before the rain !!

Find a plug cutter and you can have a few of mine. From other lawns at mid-night ??

We live in the foothills to the Rocky Mountains. We've tried most of the 'popular' varieties of lawn with poor results. Then we found some grasses that are native to the intermountain northwest and all is well.

So ... I'd ask 'have you asked about local cultivars'? Those would be the best option for looks AND longevity.

Kentucky Bluegrass did well for us in Colorado Springs. Bermuda is available here and used on the golf courses. Shoe's gardener scored a couple of pieces from a friend that works at the Tamarindo golf course. A Mexican family I was introduced to yesterday, also got theirs from a Tamarindo golf course gardener. When I asked them what type of grass it was they called it Brahman? It looks similar to the Kentucky Bluegrass, finer bladed.

The vivero said my grass is St. Augustine and not Bermuda. They are similar and I thought the names are interchangeable. St. Augustine was very common in Florida and about all I saw. Very tough and looks good with maintenance and lots of water

I recall the grass in the Melaque/Barra area to be similar to that variety I've seen in the Houston area.

I don't recall seeing any of the Bermuda type.

... hope these links work.

I had a sample out of a friend's garden. This small patch came from the Tamarindo golf course. A friend of ours in Bucerias has the same type of grass in her yard, she called it Bermuda and it is available in PV.

Yesterday I found out that this type of grass can be bought in Colima, at a a whopping 90 p per m2. (sod farm prices here are 30 and 40 p per m2) I would have preferred that type of grass as it is nice and soft to walk on and looks very lush. But I had sod installed yesterday morning. Not bought at the sod farm before the Pemex station, but at a place shortly before the sod farm, other side of the road. He was cheaper too. Very nice people and they did not charge for installation (I also had the help of a gardener and his friend). Now I have a green backyard instead of sand. Time to get busy with planting trees and shrubs. Maybe next week. I'm adopting the Mexican mañana attitude - hey - I can do that - I'm retired!
