I, as a Canadian taxpayer am thoroughly P***ed off at the Canadian government.

Brenda Martin chose some years ago to leave Canada and live and "WORK" in Mexico. To do so she would need more than a tourist FMT, at least an FM3 permits to let you live and work in Mexico. In other words she chose to live in Mexico and turned her back on Canada.

I just heard on the news today that we, the Canadian taxpayers paid
$ 82,627.00 for a special chartered plane to fly her from Mexico to Canada. Not only that in addition to that by the Canadian governmet she was given a "LOAN" of $ 3,500.00 to get her out of jail.

This is as bad as a few years ago when all these Canadians were brought out of Lebanon at taxpayers expense. I wonder how many of them are still in Canada?

Gee,, I thought it very nice of you tax payers to go the extra step and pay to get her out of jail and transport her back to her home country. I bet she stays there now.

Of course she was innocent of all charges and the judge in Mexico was wrong so you need not worry about her committing any more fraud type of crimes.

cya,
shoe

At least all those news stories will stop. Maybe she can write a book and pay you back

RGM -

I've never heard a comment like yours regarding Brenda Martin. Comments I've read before were about her being charged without substantial evidence (she was only the cook).

I read that she was depressed, in poor health, and had lost weight. Some commentators were concerned for her life.

I understood that the Canadian government had been negotiating with the Mexican court or relevant governmental officials to have her released. I was very pleased to read that she would be finishing her sentence in Canada.

I don't understand why you are concerned about the money and not with her questionably legal incarceration?

Maybe I see it differently because I'm American and very worried about paying for our silly war.

Maybe it is just me, but I am tired of hearing about Brenda. She was found guilty in a Mexican court and is going to serve the remainder of her sentence in Canada. Let's think about her situation on a basic level. Her boss fled the country and she continued to work for him and take direction from him while he was out of the country..........Wouldn't you ask some questions if you were in this situation???

Her case has no bearing on the price of beans, rice or tortillas in my neighborhood, Santiago, therefore I don't care.

Cold, perhaps, but not as cold as the current plan for Texas to execute a mexican citizen.

JulieAnn, from some of the coverage I've seen, Ms Martin continued to help her fugitive boss launder money through her account while he was out of the country. Of course she claims she had no idea that the large sums being deposited and subsequently passed on were in anyway suspicious. Hmmm.

It is compassionate for you to be concerned about her "questionably legal incarceration". I only hope you are at least as concerned for all those detainees that your government holds in Guantanamo, some for years and with NO charges at all. Now THAT is what I would call criminal.

I didn't know that he was cycling large sums through her account. I only heard that he gave her luxurious sums to bake, cook and prepare anything she needed. While she was complicit in something, I don't know that she actually committed any crimes.

Texas loves to execute people. I can only hope that the man is actually guilty.

Gitmo, Dierdre? The current administration makes me want to be Canadian - or anything else but American. It is truly embarrassing to have such a stupid, corrupt, and cruel government.

holy smokes! it's amazing how this story keeps getting twisted. there are/were 2 convicted criminals in guad. martin the canuck was fired for insulting waage's mother but was given $26,000 severence pay for her bad behavior after only working for him for 9 months-not suspicious?
the other woman who is a yanqui got 9 years in the slammer fer continuing to move waage's money through her personal account after he fled to costa rica. she was one of his bookeepers. her name is rebecca roth and was from the state of oregano,USA.
why are soooo many women supporting these 2 criminals. if they had been men, would you "ladies" be as sympathetic?
would mexican women get all frothy if it happened to 2 of theirs in the excited states or canuckleheadland?
would the mexican gummint want convicted criminals sent back and would they attack them respective justice systems or would they respect them gummints sovernty[sic] enough to shut their pieholes?DOUBLE SNORK!
oh,and simply because so many of you feren dunderheads don't understand the mexican laws doesn't mean justice has not been served.

Sorry, yeah, I guess I am confused about the stories...

I guess we "gals" feel a connection to Brenda because, as the story goes, we (I) could have gotten mixed up and over my head before I knew what was happening, I would be terrified to be in a Mexican prison. (I've seen the BBC series "Locked Up Abroad.") Lastly, I think it would be so very lonely. Maybe other women feel the same.

I didn't understand the part about the Mexican v American v Canadian governments and their respective sovereignty.

SNORK! to you!
