:D HI EVERYONE,

HI MY NAME IS JIM.

MY WIFE AND I ARE THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO ONE OF THE SMALL TOWN IN YOUR AREA. TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BACK GROUND ABOUT ME, I AM A REITRED TRUCK DRIVER, LIVING ON SSA. BY THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW I DON'T HAVE A LARGE INCOME, $1027 P/M. WE DON'T NEED ONE OF THOSE BIG FANCY HOMES ON THE WATER, JUST A NICE SMALL HOUSE ARE APARTMENT. WE ARE LOOKING FOR A UNFURNISHED, 1OR 2 BEDROOM, IN ANY OF THE SMALL TOWNS ON THE COAST OF COLIMA OR JALISCO. WE WILL NOT BE MOVING, IF WE FIND A PLACE, UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. IF WE FIND A PLACE WE LIKE,WILL BE THERE FOR A VERY LONG TIME, YEARS. VERY LONG TERM RENTAL... :D

CAN YOU GIVE US AN IDEA WHERE TO START LOOKING. WE DON'T MIND LIVING CLOSE TO CENTRO OF ANY SMALL TOWN. MY WIFE IS MEXICAN, AND I LIKE TO LIVE AMONG THE LOCALS. WE WILL BE COMING TO MANZANILLO, FOR A RECON. MISSION. AROUND THE 9 OR 10 TH OF OCT. JUST TO GET THE FEEL OF THE AREA.

ALL INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

JIM :D
:D

Jim .... while that is plenty to live on here it's not enough to qualify for a retirement visa for a single person ... let alone a couple. There are ways to show more income ... like transfer money from one back account to another. A single person requesting an FM3 rentista visa requires about $1150 ... and a couple, half again as much. If you don't qualify you would need to cross the border every 6 months on a tourist visa.

October should still be warm enough to get a taste of this heat and humidity which is a major consideration when living on the coast. Climate is more temperate in the higher elevations inland.

Manzanillo is pretty large but an area like Santiago (north of DT) has a small town feel to it. The town is also spreading out behind the beaches in the Salagua area. You should also visit the Barra de Navidad and Melaque areas about an hour north of Manzanillo (actually closer to the airport) to see some smaller towns.

The best time to be looking for long term rentals is during the summer between May and September when all the snowbirds are gone, prices go down ... and there are more vacancies. That rule may not apply the further you are from the beach.

BTW ... I know truck drivers don't make a living typing but you really should use small case and just shift up for your CAPS

Jim, since you are living in Mexico already, none of these immigration stipulations apply to you anymore. You already have your FM3 so you are free to move anywhere in Mexico you wish to.

You may want to explore some of the smaller towns on the Costalegre coast where the living would be less expensive than Manzanillo.
Just think of it as if you were to live in Chapala/Axixic compared to where you are now in Tangancicuaro de Arista.

For instance the small town I visit in the winter a nice house can be rented for 2500 MP and there are even less expensive houses to be had. What you really need to do is to hop in your car,or on a bus and visit the areas you are interested in. Stay there for a week or two. find your way around and talk to some of the locals to find out what's available.

I knew a man who had rented a small Palapa type dwelling in La Manzanilla for 750 MP a month, but thats not my style of living.

Good luck in your quest.
