Hi All

We are going to Manzanillo in early January. We want to spend a day in the City of Colima and the town of Comala. We are four adults and one child. Which would be more economical, taking a bus from Manzanillo to Colima and then hiring a taxi in Colima to take us around, or just hiring a taxi in Manzanillo and going to Colima/Comala area for the whole day.

My son speaks spanish fairly well, so there isn't much of a language issue. He lived in Colima and Comala 12 years ago for three months on a student exchange.

I would appreciate some advice.

Thanks

Jetred in Winnipeg

I was just in Manzanillo 2 weeks ago. Rented a car and drove thru Colima on my way to Tuxpan.
Rent a car and go. Take the Autopista ( toll road) and it is easier than driving in the US.

Very easy and very pretty drive, bring your camera. Hopefully the vulcano is active( just not to active). Stop at the small beaches like Paraiso they are neat little towns.

If you want the taxi to be your guide ... probably getting one in Colima is a better bet 'cause he'd know the town. Make sure to get an outgoing-friendly driver or it could ruin your day. To make the best use of your time on only a day trip a tour might be better.

The drive to Colima is easy but it's a fairly large city and easy to go in circles ... probably for less than $100 you could rent a good sized car for a day.

We took " Ray's Tours" out of Melaque. He regularly does that trip in his air conditioned Suburban. He's friendly, knowledgable, fluent in spanish and very accommodating in flexing the tour to suit our needs.
I believe it cost us around $200 u.s. for everything. It was worry-free and fun.
