Many of you have IMSS or may subscribe to it when you arrive. Many people do not know and are not told that after receiving their IMSS they MUST go to IMSS and make an appointment to be assigned to and see that doctor so that when you need it, treatment will be available to you..
You may have no reason to use IMSS and suddenly you have a problem and really need to see a doctor. If you haven't been assigned a doctor you will first need to go through the steps of making the appointment even to be assigned a doctor before being treated. This could take a day or two and precious time has gone by.

This was brought strongly to my attention over the past few days. A friend of mine has had IMSS for 4 years. She lived elsewhere in Mexico and moved here a year ago. When she moved she renewd her IMSS here and was transferred to Chapala. She did not know she had to go to the Chapala Clinic of IMSS and be assigned a doctor.

She has fallen ill and went to their emergency doctor the other night. He told her all he could do was to give her pain killersand could treat her no further. She had to be assigned to a doctor before they would do anything for her. It is now 4 days later and she is ill, on pain killers and has gotten no further in the system as the assignment clerk was unavailable when she went to get her appointment and no one else could set an appointment.

Remember: After signing up for IMSS make sure to make an appointment to be assigned a doctor.
