I'm finally settled down a bit, Barbara and I are moved .... and we are dealing with paying utilities, phone, etc. Hope we can pass this info along. If others want to comment or add descriptions we've missed ... please do (not restaurants, bars or even your favorite hardware store).

Soon ... where to pay bills, municipio office, electric office in Cihuatlan, Telmex in Manzanillo ... and immigration in Manzanillo for FM3. Hopefully more ....

Discuss any of the trials and tribulations of getting these things done yourselves in other messages below.

***********
Decided to make a seperate message for each location - easier to find stuff I think

Thanks for blazing the way for the rest of us (and leaving a trail of tortilla crumbs) Won't be a while for the us.
Right now wondering about your experiences with having catalog items delivered to you in Mexico from the U.S. I'd like to get some vet/pet supplies sent to a friend at PATA in Manzanillo (from a company in Iowa) but have no idea how the shipping channels look. What're your thoughts, experiences, advice?

Only books and we paid about 15% duty .... and now I hear books are supposed to be duty free (from a book store owner in Mazatlan). They came VIA the postal system. DHL is another option but will be sure to go thru customs as well.

Might save by finding people to bring things down when they fly

customs?? Sorry I'm not too savvy.....do they open the packages or just need to have a stamp of approval from somewhere or just confirm the type of item is ok to send into the country? I guess there's a duty fee cuz the govt protects its country's businesses from outside competition? (Yes, it's alot of questions....I only need the simple answers. don't waste too much of your time on them  :? )

I'm sure they would open something if they thought there was a reason. At this point I don't remember how ours were labeled or if they were ... but they were not opened.

With medical/vet supplies I would not label them rather than mislabel them - trying to avoid attention. Still, having someone bring them down that's driving or flying sounds more secure and less expensive. Shouldn't be hard to find someone. I could deliver from Melaque if they get this far since we make almost weekly trips to Manzanillo.

Thanks for the generous offer of transporting. I'll keep it in mind if anything comes together. Thanks.
