Scott,

This may not be posted in the most logical area so move it if you have to.

Question: Any 'ripples' down in your neighborhood from the happenings here in the USA regarding the financial/Wall street activities?

Lehman Bros., AIG and Freddy Mac/Fannie Mae ...

Too soon to tell if will slow the tourist season. I'm sure many people are re-thinking investing in housing of the vacation or investment type. Maybe in a month we'll have a better idea how bad it's going to be

Of course there are many issues that impact economies ... BUT ... from what I read and watch on the TV ... this is being called the worst since the Great Depression. Time will tell ... I'm as prepared as possible, I think.

I may be foolish, but I am going to try to weather this with full market index funds. I may end up retiring on the beach.

Not after the 2001 Tech crash ... it just couldn't go down any further, thought I. Luckily I had gotten in in the early and mid 90's so had not invested a whole lot .... but sure watched a lot a gains disappear. I'd rather be in Money Market now and put it back if I think I see a bottom. A lot of sector funds are down 20-30% already from the end of last year

Scott -- I have thought of doing the same thing. But I usually miss the recovery point. Perhaps I wll need to be more observant this time round. And then there is the issue of civil unrest. But I will save tat for another post.

There is a beginning argument between Congress and Bush's folks about terms/conditions of a $700 billion bail-out. Also the FBI is investigating 4 of the entities that have caused the problem. The two presidential candidates have stepped up their dialog on financial/economic issues; particularly the big 4.

I have spent a few days looking locally for silver (coins, biscuits and 90 bags) ... sorta slim pickens out there. That all tells me that others have been on the prep path before I. Sandy and I do have the farm ... so if we pull money out of the FCU we feel good.
