there's very good news for root beer lovers. in manzanillo centro we had the chance to get american style rootbeer in a dollar store named "waldo's", plus you can get just about anything you want for the price of 13 wonderful pesos (sodas, cereal, silverware, snacks, etc).

now we get a better chance by having that store being built on the left corner of office depot. from what i've observed, the store looks bigger than the one they have in manzanillo centro, so that means that they can cram in more stuff. let's all hope that this new edition of waldo's also contian rootbeer. can u imagine, now i can get vanilla ice cream at walmart and then cross the street to waldo's and buy a six pack of rootbeer? that's sweet!

i've never really liked the rootbeer they make here in mzo. alot of locals say it's the real deal, but despite of that, i really love the ones we have in the states.

You must have a sweet tooth since I remember Root Beer being one of the sweetest. Hires was good but prefered A&W in the drive-in. So what's the brand here just incase ... and where is it made.

Quote:
HIRES COMPANY

Meanwhile, Charles Hires, also a pharmacist, was on his honeymoon around the same time when he discovered an herbal tea he simply could not part with. After taking the recipe of herbs, berries and roots home to Philadelphia with him, he began selling a packaged dry mixture to the public made from many of the same ingredients as the original herbal tea. Well received, Hires soon developed a liquid concentrate blended together from more than 25 herbs, berries and roots. The public loved the new drink and as a result, Hires introduced commercial root beer to the public in 1876 at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. In no time, it became a popular drink of its day. By 1893, the Hires family sold bottled versions of their well-known brew, sealing their place in rootbeer history.

i forgot the brand name... i think it was 'american' something. that brand also carries their take on cola and sprite. there rootbeer tastes a lil waterdowned vs a&w (my fave brand), but it's great overall. in the end it's better than nothing.

i think last year soriana had their 'soriana' label rootbeer in a 2 lt size bottle, but it was out only for a limited time. i don't think mexicans really like our rootbeer. walmart and fastfood resteraunts don't carry out rootbeer either.
