ok, so now we're in 2009 and they finally have a starbucks (like it or not), dairy queen, the new domino's & waldo's to the addings. now there are at least 2 empty buildings with a sign that said "se renta" (on rent), so i guess time will tell which rich mindless gringo-type business man will rent out the that buliding and place his chain there...

i think mcdonalds would be a good chain to be placed there, #1, cause i like it, and #2, i would prefer seeing a mcdonalds being set there (in a comercial spot where it belongs) instead of santiago. in case you haven't known, there are or were rumors of a mcdonalds being set there...

i have nothing againts mcdonalds, but... santiago is still a nice lil' SAFE mexican town with traditional mexican "antojitos" restaurants...let's keep it that way! before you know it, santiago will become another pv....let's keep things in order shall we? there are places where you can bring big city chains and places where you shouldn't at all costs!

Improvements or just changes .... it's hard to say. Lots of gringos here don't like the changes because they came to Mexico for Mexico. Whatever your opinion or theirs below are some of the changes with the new Brisas Mall almost across from Walmart. Don't forget the first icon in this Plaza was Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). The most important changes I saw last weekend are the two new traffic lights on the highway in central Santiago

one thing i would like to quote on, is despite the fact that these american chains arrive here, they still seem to have a bit of a mexican flair (except for starbucks and subway) which is good in a way, cause it would be boring if it's 100% americana. they also seem to be built differently, in some ways nicer and cleaner than some of those stores found in the states.

what i'm waiting for are the updates at manzanillo centro. those are going to be good changes for locals and tourists alike.

p.s. any new pictures of the walmart buiding inside and out would be highly appreciated.

This has been posted before and has not changed. Inside?? .... does not sound that interesting to me. Last time I tried taking pictures inside the Comercial Mall I was cut off by security and even outside in the parking lot.

Recently met the owners of Plaza Brizza - a couple of brothers from Leon. Young guys in their early 30's. They tell me that the vacant space next to Star Bucks is being considered by a bank. I cannot remember the name of the bank but it is a regional player based out of Leon I believe. It is a business bank that only accepts business accounts. The space next to the Office Depot and Dairy Queen is being considered by the owners of the Viva Vino store. I believe they told me the space right next to the Office Depot will be the Viva Vino wine bar with tables outside like the Star Bucks and the other space with be for the Viva Vino store.
