The benefits of fleeing an accident far outweigh the penalties. If the person didn’t have insurance or wasn’t allowed to drive the car then they would arrest the person and impound the car. Now they are free. The fine for fleeing an accident is very small, 432 pesos or 216 if paid within 5 working days of the ticket. So there you have it, go to jail and lose the car to the impound yard and tow truck or risk a 216 peso fine.
