Some friends and I will be heading over your way from Ajijic in late January to do some fishing at Barra de Navidad. We'd like to stay in the newer hotel that is on the inland side of the street closest to the beach in Barra, the one that has the open-air bar on the top floor with the 5:00 p.m. happy hour, but none of us can remember the name of the place. Can any of you give us a hint and a phone number?

Thanks,
GA

I had met some people who stayed there last year and they suggested to have good earplugs. The staircase in the middle of the building carries the loud music from the rooftop down the staircase to the rooms.
But it may also be that everyones concept of loud differs.

Thanks for the info, everybody. If past fishing trips are any indication, the noise from the bar upstairs shouldn't be a problem, as we will all probably be right there with those who are making the noise.

Get ready, folks. In about six weeks the Tom's Bar Irregulars will be heading your way. (Hi, Shoe.)

Toms bar irregulars?

Are you by any chance talking about Wayne and Leticia Lambs bar " ,Tomas"?
So who are the irregulars, not that I would remember too many names from there.
Or are you talking about the bar in Ajijic?

The Alondra also have their own web site http://www.alondrahotel.com/ in english and spanish complete with photos and rates (tarifas) the pool on the beach is completed now including the pool bar but they are still constructing the poolside rooms. The construction should not bother anyone staying in the main hotel though and Javier told me that the poolside rooms should be open for January. The main floor poolside rooms only need paint and sliding glass doors now, the second floor rooms area almost completed as well so the January date looks realistic.

Oh, and their restaurant on the 2nd floor has just opened. I was through the hotel with Javier last week from top to bottom new construction and all and we did the kitchen tour as well. Met the Chef, lovely man they brought over from Tamarindo. I sampled some of the hors d'ouvres he had made to offer in Chicano's roof bar, very good.

That would be Tom's Bar in Ajijic. And judging by the initials, that would be Gary that posted the question about the hotel?
I'm still suffering from withdrawal symptoms - have been back in the frozen North now for almost 2 weeks, not returning to Melaque for another 2 months.....

sounds like gary if he likes porches and guitars and yes that would be tom's bar in the gringo ghetto of ajijic.
hola anderson!
that house next to the paraiso had a new years bash happening and i started sawing logs the minute we hit the room and until jan 1, i could here the discos from across the bay in barra-no big deal-SNORK!
the only thing that worries me is some o' them ghetto people "discovering" melaque and bringing their so called "charitable" attitudes which is way worse than noise. it ain't like ajijic! an' that's why i, and lotsa other people likes it.
jest have a good vacation like the burghers of guad do. they the main tourists there besides all them bc people from the land of canuckleheads.

The crowd from Tom's bar come over here most every year and has a good time fishing and relaxing. Give me a call this time Gary, maybe I will join you all if you have room at the bar or where ever. I am in the book.

Pedro, why don't you just stop thinking about Mexico and reading these forums. You are only making it worse on yourself as you will not sell the house for many years as you wait for inflation to catch up with your inflated price for the house. Just keep on playing hockey in the old folks league and freezing your tail off. Enjoy it where you are as you are not coming to Mexico anytime soon.

jarjar! senor shoe. the problem is the house has not kept up with inflation  so i am raising the price by 10% in the new year and it will sell much faster[probly quicker than a geodisic{splg?} dome in kentucky did  ] so that i can visit tom's bar very shortly to hang out with some o' the sorta "normal" reglers there that i am aquainted with. we will pounce upon you from time to time and let you go fishing with us so you can learn how to do it.
i am at present putting together a consortium to build a hockey rink just up the street from you and another one right next to you in joco, martygraw with an apartment on top so i can detect any neferious goings on while you bbq in your yard. did i say that well?-SNORK!

Hi, Shoe, Elke & Pedro -

Yup, that would be me. As Shoe said, a bunch of us who hang out around Tom's Bar in Ajijic (not Tomas's in Chapala, a place we all like also) go to Barra/Melaque every January for a week or so around the 24th for fishing and R&R. The Costalegre is no secret to those of us who live over this way, many Lakesiders love your area; I, for one, would probably live there were it not for the humid summers. At my advancing age, the more temperate climate up here in the hills suits me better, but different strokes, etc.

Maybe we'll see some of y'all in a few weeks.

Hasta luego,
Gary A.

even more important, gary, is that it's so damn hot in the summer where shoe lives that that air cooled engine in yer porche would blow up while slowing down fer them topes.-si?

Pedro -

That old 356 S90 coupe of mine has never seen the south side of the US border and never will. The cobblestones and topes around here would ensure an early demise for the poor old thing, so it lives with my daughter in Washington state. It's my USA car when I'm home visiting in the summers, she takes care of it the rest of the time, and I write the checks when necessary, which, with a 43-year-old sports car, is often. :(

While we're there, I'm sure that the TB Irregulars will be spending some time at Piper's in the evenings (I hear he moved to a new location a few doors down the street), as well as partaking of the happy hours at the hotel.

Nos vemos,
GA
